For many, The Masters signals the start of the golf season and we don't have long to wait. One of the things that intrigues me most about the whole week is some of the shots the professionals are faced with, and nine times out of ten they seem to pull them off.
Whether it's uphill or downhill lies, intimidating putts across treacherous greens or approach shots littered with card-wrecking danger, we are treated to a vast array of shots during Masters week. My instruction pages might not advise you how to play a low slinging draw off pine needles, but you will find some great tips and advice for all aspects of your game.
Have a browse, and for during those times when you can't get out onto the course to play, or hone your game on the range, take on board a few useful pointers. You might not find yourself teeing it up at Augusta next year, but I guarantee you'll find it useful for shaving a few shots off round here. So click here to take a look at the videos and tips I have for you.
The 2014 Season is almost underway:
Eric Taylor our New Captain will Drive in this Saturday at 12.45 which will be followed by the usual match of Captain V President Shotgun at 1pm. If you are playing we will see you on Saturday but if not you can still come along and support Eric as he officially opens the Golf Season.
Repair the Ground you Play on.
With the season about to start, here is a snippet of Arnold Palmers wisdom:
"Always repair your ball marks and replace your divots, and other peoples if you see them. Rake bunkers like you mean it! Ever notice the worse the bunker shot, the poorer the job of raking the sand? Make the area nice and smooth - dont leave deep furrows from the rake. Before you leave the bunker, ask yourself, would I be upset to play from that spot?"
Busiest Start Ever
This year has been (or seems to be, could be something to do with lack of snow!) our busiest ever start to the season. This is always a busy time for us in the Pro Shop with New stock arriving on a Daily basis, and Richard, John and myself spend a lot of time preparing and choosing what we feel to be the best products to offer to our members. With the interest being shown already in our new seasons offerings, I think we have made some very good choices.
Our main Brands of Hardware are PING, TaylorMade and Titleist, and this year we have re introduced Callaway which has also proven very popular. We also offer Cleveland and now MacGregor, and with Drivers costing just £59.99 and fairway woods only £39.99, I think they will be very popular, and are available in both Mens and Ladies.
On Top of our expansive stock we also offer our Click and Collect service in conjunction with Foremost Golf. Through my Foremost website, you can purchase 1000's of products and collect them from your Pro Shop which hopefully is another service you will find useful. Junior AGM
On Tuesday Night I attended the Junior AGM, and would like to congratulate our New Junior Captain Craig Rimmer, and also thank last years Captain Andrew Bagot for doing a great job. Craig gave a very good acceptance speech, and I am sure he will be a fantastic Captain. There was a good turn out, and with Ray Bolton stepping down and Kath Smith taking a back seat, the reigns of Junior organiser has been passed over to Mark Rimmer, Richie Rawsthorne and Brian Macleavey who gave the Juniors an insight into what they have instore for them this season.
To thank Kath for her work, the Junior section presented her with a Bottle of Champagne, but I don't think they will get rid of her that easy!! We have several new Juniors which now also includes 3 girls, and I hope we can all give them encouragement throughout the year. Good luck to all our Juniors, and have a great fun filled year.
The Grip
Does your left hand grip look like the one in this picture? If not, try and copy it because it is one of the most important aspects of your game, I see many golfers holding the club too much in the palm of their hand and not enough in the fingers. Next time you are in the shop ask me to check your grip. It can make a huge difference to your game.
