Evening all, The weekend went quite well and with 18 holes and a lot of fourballs it was good to see we were not overwhelmed on the course or the car park. This sparked some questions as to why we are not playing 18 holes in the week if it worked at a "busy " weekend but the truth is that weekends have actually been quieter than most other days through this initial period after lockdown. Other questions revolve around when competitions may start and my answer has simply been that doing everything that we would all like to do means getting back to Normal!! and I don't think we are going to be anything like Normal for some time to come. We are looking ahead to starting competitions at some point but this is not as easy as you may at first imagine. Some clubs have started and others are a long way from starting. If and when we do start any competitions and it would be great to hear your opinions whether for or against as we have to put a lot of measures in place and are looking at and evaluating these. The main concerns are always around safety and one of the issues would be the handling of scorecards from the golfers point of view and also from the individuals point of view who would have to handle all of these cards and then input scores into the computer, sounds easy!!! I would imagine we would have to go towards electronic scoring through the clubs intelligent golf app as this would mean that nobody is put into a position which is potentially unsafe. The golf is working well at present with lots of members getting lots of fresh air, exercise and enjoyment, On my way in to work this morning (if you can call it work) I was listening to someone on the radio who was really struggling in the current crisis with children at home and financial constraints making life very difficult and I thought isn't it great to only be concerned with whether or not I can do 9 or 18 holes today. Today seemed fairly quiet most of the day but we had 218 members out on the course. I would appreciate feedback on all of these issues and hope that we can continue to enjoy our great course and ease our way into normality. Just to show a bit of normality if you were playing this morning you would have been temporary greens as our fantastic Greenstaff were top dressing and verticutting the greens!! A small price to pay for the greens to keep improving. See you tomorrow bright and early x
