I hope you have been getting my daily updates as to what’s been happening on the course, so far since we got back to playing golf we have had a hole-in-one by John Wainwright, his first ever at the tender age of 82! Bill Unsworth celebrated his 80th Birthday by playing the back 9 with Geoff Rigby, we have had a family of ducks waddling down the drive and out onto the course like they owned it and there have been a few sightings of a deer roaming around as well. Please try and get some pictures if you see any unusual wildlife around. We also had a massive local fire which spread ash and smoke all over the course, temperatures almost reaching 30 degrees and then a few days of incredibly strong winds blowing debris all over the place, so we have certainly had our share of drama and excitement. Add to this upwards of 200 members playing the course each day and I would say its been quite a lively return. I hope you have been enjoying the new style of golf and it would be great to hear your thoughts on things including the tee booking system and pace of play etc. I have been hearing quite a few stories from other golf clubs and I honestly believe that we are handling the situation as well as, if not better than most. The prime concern has always been member safety from arrival to departure. I’m sure things will change, and we will be ready to move with them but let's just enjoy what we have for now knowing that we are all safe and getting lots of opportunity to play golf. As you know I have been helping on the car park recently but hopefully as of 1st June I will be able to re-open the shop. I know this will not be normal anytime soon and I hope you can be patient with me as I try and get back to my normal job. I have put safety measures in place such as a screen on the counter, a hand sanitiser station at the door and tape on the floor for a one way socially distanced experience and I truly hope it can work. Prior to this although I have not been able to operate from the shop, I have been operating a click and collect service which has worked well, and I would like to thank everyone for their valuable support in these strange times. I am always available if you need me call me on 07764230408 if you need to order anything for collection or just need assistance booking your golf or help with your game. We have a great club with great members and spending so much time talking with so many of you over the past week or so has confirmed what a wonderful community we have here at Ashton and I feel certain that we will become even better as a club due to this adversity.
