Caledonian triumph over the Eagle & Child in the Ryder Cup!
Two local societies (many of whom are members) played at Ashton on Sunday in their annual Ryder Cup match. John Flaherty, Danny Flaherty, Chris Bland, Tim Potter, Ste Johnson & Gary Jackson were part of the victorious Caledonian team. While on the losing side Paul Critchley, Steve Hodgkinson &Alan Harwood. Richie was on hand doing the scoring and as always everyone enjoyed the day!
Cooke, Gallagher, Lacy & Davies win the four man team!
It seems like every time there is a team or pairs competition at Ashton Garry Lacy wins; he certainly knows how to pick his partners! All jokes aside, congratulations to the four who had a great score of 83 beating the team of Andy Brooks, Grant Benson, Ste Nuttie and Chris Jones on a countback. Paul and Garry both made crucial birdies at the last to seal the win!
Odyssey Versa Putters pick up two wins on the European Tour!
Both Scott Hend and Mikko Ilonen used their magic Odyssey wands to good effect at the weekend leading them to wins on the European Tour. Scott won the Hong Kong Open with a score of 13 under par defeating Angelo Que in a playoff. While Ilonen caused an upset defeating Henrik Stenson in the final of the Volvo World Matchplay.
Both players were using the Odyssey Versa #1 putter, I use the Versa Tank #1 and John uses the Versa 90 #7. They are great putters and definitely worth a try next time you are down!
A word from my assistant John:
A windy day at West Lancs
I took to the links on Wednesday with Matt Gallagher, Paul Cooke and Ben Johnson; playing in the Liverpool Golf Alliance. The conditions were tough and the course even tougher, it was a great day although me and Ben sadly had to pay Paul and Matt a pound each! To show how tough it was, a fourball of two professionals and 2 five handicap golfers lost 18 balls between them, ouch!
We had a laughable moment on the 13th hole where Matt played the wrong ball out of the rough incurring a two shot penalty and yet still made 5! It was even funnier because this is the third time he has played the wrong ball in the past month, and he said to me on Saturday that he had learnt his lesson and it won't happen again (obviously not!).
This week I am playing at Mere with my partner being Paul Woods pairing up against Pete and Stef Lucas. Playing in the group behind is John Heaton, Andy Bytheway, Dave Houghton & Mark Atherton. I'll be getting plenty of practice in this week trying to beat the boss! If you would like to play in any Alliance events then feel free to contact me.
Upcoming dates: Carden Park 5th November, Formby 13th November, Leasowe 19th November, Formby Ladies 26th November.

New Big Bertha Irons + Hybrid
Joyce Kenyon was in the studio on Tuesday with Richie and hit the Big Bertha 7 iron 21 yards past her own. It also went higher and straighter, even Richie carried a 7 iron 170 yards! These new irons really are something and I highly recommend you come in and try them.
