Open Championship

What a great finish to this year’s Open Championship!

After finishing my practice round at Fairmont St Andrew I watched the last round with lots of expectation of a win by Tiger but was thrilled for Molinari who played fantastic golf and almost came in under the radar for a magnificent victory on one of the toughest courses.

Senior Open St Andrews

Many thanks for the 100’s of kind messages I received prior to the qualifying for the Senior Open its much appreciated.

Disappointingly my game was not up to scratch and a scruffy 79 saw me finish 6 shots off the qualifying score of 73 at Fairmont St Andrew.

I got a nice draw playing with ex Ryder Cup player Philip Walton and American Tommy Armour 111, but sadly none of us managed to qualify.

Meanwhile over at Scotscraig our very own Garry Lacy claimed one of the 7 spots available with a fine 70.

Garry will now tee it up on Thursday at The Home of Golf St Andrews at 3.40 which is last match off.
Phil Smith has gone up to Caddy and we wish them both good luck.

This is Garry’s 2nd time in the Senior Open having qualified at Carnoustie 2 years ago and let’s hope he can do even better this year and make the cut and who knows what happens then?

Here’s a great photo of Garry on the Swilken Bridge one which I am sure he will treasure for a long time.

Just Arrived

This summer, two new PING irons have hit the shelves. While they both look fantastic, one has a focus on feel and precision while the other fits the mould of a players’ distance iron, providing speed and forgiveness in a compact package.

The i210 and i500 slot in between the compact iBlade and forgiving G400, offering slightly different looks and performance traits for the serious golfer.

The i500 is similar to G700 in that it has the look of a muscle back from behind but is in fact hollow.

The i210 has more of a focus on feel and precision. It is more traditionally lofted (7-iron is 33°) and features added elastomer in contact with the face, which means it should feel much softer than i200.

These are both now available to try in the Studio, come and have a look.

Danger!

Are you the type of golfer who considers the danger ahead of you and plans accordingly, or do you pull a driver from the bag on every par-4 and par-5 without a blink? If you’re the latter then you need to read on.

Consider the danger
You hear pros talk a lot about the ‘smart shot’ in their post-round interviews. If you’re on the tee and there’s a bunker, ditch or other hazard around the distance that your driver or fairway wood normally flies, then make sure you change club to one that takes the trouble out of play, as displayed in this graphic. While you’ll have a slightly longer shot to the green, you’ll greatly reduce the chance of a big number.

Know your numbers
Of course, key to all of this is knowing how far each of your woods carries. If you’re looking to add more distance and control to your game, come and test the TaylorMade M4 driver, M4 fairway and M4 hybrid. Spotlight: Callaway Chrome Soft TruVis

If you were a fan of the previous generation TruVis, which helped to increase focus and visibility by maximising your view of the golf ball, then you're going to love this.

The new and improved 2018 Chrome Soft has greater ball speed and reduced long-game spin compared to last year's model, increasing distance throughout the bag. Couple this with two TruVis colour options (white/red and yellow/black) and you have a ball that will be going in a lot of golf bags this summer.
