Our new Head Greenkeeper Eddie Ainsworth started this week but many of you will have seen him as he has been working during the previous two weeks before officially starting his new role as in his words, “I couldn't leave it looking like that” Eddie started his greenkeeping career as a 16-year-old at Caldy and has also spent time at Bidston and Mount Murray in the Isle of Man. He come to us after 14 years at Avro Golf Club near Wilmslow having been course manager for the last six years. Eddie comes with a great pedigree having won Greenkeeper of the Year in 2014 and in 2017 was voted the STRI Conservation greenkeeper of the year. He’s a Scouser and supports Liverpool but we won’t hold that against him! Somehow in his spare time he is also a Bee keeper as a hobby as he has a passion for the environment and also makes Honey, you could say he likes a challenge. On top of all this he is a Champion Ballroom dancer having been four times British Champion in Freestyle pairs. Last night I was with Eddie and Gary on the 15th green and have to say I was gobsmacked! a few short weeks ago I thought it no longer even resembled a green and this weekend it will be in play for Captains and it’s looking amazing.
A very warm welcome to Eddie from all of us here at Ashton and I look forward to watching the progress.

Well done Andy
This week Andy played at West Lancs in the Regional Qualifier for the Open Championship and missed out on getting through to the final qualifying by two shots. Unlucky Andy but still a very good performance on your first attempt and a shout out to Ashley Bickerton for caddying and Paul Cooke who went over to watch.

First one way, now the other The U.S. Open had everything from the sublime to the ridiculous, and it’s safe to say that the course set-up played a huge part in this. With much of the debate centred around whether the USGA made conditions too tricky or not, we posed this very question to you over the past week on our website poll and here are the results: 75% of you believe the USGA got it wrong at Shinnecock Hills It really does make for interesting reading. Just a couple of months ago we asked you whether you’d prefer to see 20-under-par win a tournament or two-over-par, and the results were the complete reverse. On that occasion, 82% voted in favour of seeing the world’s best struggle to make a score, which is exactly what happened at the U.S. Open. Click here to let us know your thoughts. |

Which bracket do you fall in? |
There’s one thing that you'll always need in abundance when playing golf and that’s balls - and plenty of them. Each golf ball we sell offers different levels of feel and performance at varying price points, meaning we have something to offer all playing preferences and budgets. |
| Bang for your buck Balls at a cheaper price point usually have one key performance benefit rather than offering a little of everything. This Callaway Warbird follows the trend by offering maximum distance with your longer clubs thanks to its aerodynamic dimples and high-energy core, giving you lots of power for little expenditure. |
| The all-rounder If you’re looking for more balanced performance through the bag but without the premium price tag, this Callaway Supersoft ball is designed to be long, straight and soft. It doesn’t spin as much as the Chrome Soft, but its low compression core helps create long, high flights that land softly. |
| Tour performance The saying 'you get what you pay for' certainly applies when it comes to golf balls. Callaway's Chrome Soft is their premium option, and it's easy to see why, with a soft urethane cover for short-game spin and a graphene-infused core that boosts ball speed and provides more iron control. |
