Junior Victory Trophy
I had a fantastic night on Monday with our Juniors playing our annual shoot out prior to the Victory Trophy which this year is being held here at Ashton this Friday, 5 August.
There was some quality golf from everyone on the night, and it's the most fun I have had on a golf course for a long time. First to drop out on the 2nd hole was Nathan Macleavey who hit a 9 iron from 135 yards out which carried about 160. And airmailed everything.
Next to drop out at the 3rd was Kian Price who tried to hit a wood out of heavy rough on an upslope and got in trouble. Lesson learned (get a lofted club and get back in play).
After a fantastic tee shot with a hybrid on the 4th, sadly Matty Picton 4 putted and went out. I have to mention Matthew Shaw and Adam Leivesley's tee shots on 4 as they were amazing, I hit a 4 iron on the front edge and Adam hit a towering 5 iron which pitched next to the flag at 193 yards. And young Matthew hit a driver right into the middle of the green and 2 putted for his 3.
On the 5th there was a bunker play off to decide who went out, and Adam Leivesley played a superb bunker shot only to be beaten by Matthew Shaw with a wonderful splash out.
The 6th went against the run of play when I holed a bunker shot, Tom Ratcliffe and Matthew Shaw made brilliant up and downs from the left of the green, and Mike Rimmer who had hit a great 2nd shot to 6 feet and 3 putted.
The 7th also saw some drama when Tom and Matthew had a putt off and Tom holed it from 35 feet, awesome.
The 8th is where I dropped out after Tom and Joe Finch both made superb recovery shots to save par and I failed to get my par from the sand.
Joe made a solid par on the 9th to beat Tom and become this year's shoot out Champion.
A fantastic night, big thanks to Paul Featherstone, Mark Rimmer, Brian Macaleavey and Tony Finch.
We presented the team with their Trophy shirts afterwards in the clubhouse and also a Junior team shirt sponsored by Brian Macleavey and Proco.
Best of luck to our Junior Team on Friday, if you would like to come along and support you are most welcome.
1st tee is 7.30am and the last out in the afternoon round is about 2pm.
