Lessons Paying Off
Congratulations to Richard Iredale on winning the April Monthly Medal with a nett 67 after he came for a short game lesson last week, and although it can still be better, Richard said that the confidence he has now found in his short game also took the pressure off his long game.
Also with a nett 67 was Paul Barton who also takes regular lessons, but unfortunately we have not discussed the signing of your scorecard!! Paul was disqualified for not signing for his nett 67 which included a 7 on the 4th!! Unlucky Paul, but great play.
There were 2 other players who also did not sign their card but were not in amongst the leaders but it always pays to check and double check, or as Jack Nicklaus always did, triple check your scorecard.
Chris Jackson, also fresh from a lesson last week played very well and had a nett 70 which included a 9 on the par 3 15th after being in the right hand bunker from the tee!!
First thing Monday morning I took Chris to the offending 15th bunker to show him the correct technique.
Like most golfers, Chris had too much weight on his back foot in an attempt to lift the ball over the high face of the bunker. Once I had explained the correct ball position and set up Chris was playing some excellent shots.
Bunkers can be a scary place especially when you are not building the correct set up.
The best gross on the day was Andy Addison who had also been for a lesson last week, Andy is off scratch and is a very good player, and our main concern is to improve his set up and posture on which he gets out of balance.
After 5 holes on Saturday Andy was 4 over par but with some great play finished his round in 69 shots.
Also in good form is Junior Captain Craig Rimmer who tied 1st last week with Mark Davies in the Dickenson Trophy with 39 points.
Nice Feedback
Here is a text I received recently from a Father and Son who have been coming regularly for lessons.
"Hi Pete, what a weekend, I won the medal on Friday and had my handicap cut from 10.1 to 9.6, then in the Silver Jubilee comp, Stephen had a nett 71 on Saturday and a nett 65 on Monday winning best overall nett and gross, and has been cut from 3.6 to 2.8 he played great on Saturday 6 birdies and 3 bogeys.
Thanks a lot Pete see you soon."
Follow up text from Paddy
"Just had 45 points in the midweek competition now cut to 8!!"
They have both put in a lot of effort and practice, and it is great to hear their success and gives me a lot of satisfaction.
