Good News Bad News! 

First the Bad News, sadly John Findlater is leaving us, he is taking a position at Penwortham Golf Club which he feels will give him a better opportunity to do more coaching as they also have a practice ground and Driving Range which is something we are sadly lacking.

I am very sorry to see John leave as I believe he has been a great asset to myself and the Club and is well liked by all, but I wish him all the best for the future and hope he is happy and successful.

John will only be starting his new position on the 5th March so you will have plenty of time to wish him well.

The good news is that I have just played two Tournaments in Portugal, and after my enforced layoff after my Hernia Operation in October, feel I did reasonably well.

The first week I was on a Pro Am with John Heaton, Andy Bytheway and Garry Shoreman and had a fantastic time playing Quinta Do Lago North and South Courses, Pinheiros Altos, San Lorenzo and Laranjal, all of which are magnificent.

I played well in parts and managed to finish in 3rd place in the Pro's with our team in 9th place.

We customarily have a match between Garry & myself and John & Andy (the 4 time winners of the pairs knockout). The first day we were beaten 2&1, and our opposition were acting rather childishly and making sure we were aware of their victory with prank phone calls and notes pushed under our door regarding their victory!!

Suffice to say that it didn't go all their way as Garry and I cruised to 3 straight victories!!! 

All in all a fantastic week with great company and great courses.

After the lads left for home I stayed on courtesy of my ex-boss Brian Evans who is Director of golf at Quinta do Lago and played in the Algarvian Senior Invitational which attracted a quality field of Senior Pro's including Gordon Brand Jnr, Mark Mouland, Anders Forsbrand, Philip Price, Ronan Rafferty, Andrew Murray, Paul Wesslingh and eventual winner Simon Brown who are all Tour Winners and some also Ryder Cup heroes.

Sadly my form from the previous week ran out although I did play quite well in the 1st round and shot an unlucky 73, but the next 3 rounds were poor and I finished in a lowly 38th place and missed out on any prize money which went down to 25th place.

A very good week's golf again on great courses and a big thanks to my host Brian for his hospitality.
