Hello golfers,
Richard, John and I would like to wish you all a very Happy New Year, and we hope that 2016 brings you a lot of success with your golf.
Look out on the roads as John has just passed his driving test! You may have spotted a rather shiny Vauxhall Corsa parked in my space!!
The last few weeks have been the wettest I can remember, and although conditions at times have been difficult it has not prevented many of our keen members from enjoying a game of golf with their pals.
Although far from ideal and despite being as wet as I can remember the course being in my 35 years as Pro, we have escaped lightly compared to Lymm Golf Club where my ex-Assistant Steve McCarthy is Pro as they have been closed since boxing day due to the driveway and part of the course being under 3 feet of water and looking more like a boating lake!
Our new Captain Lol McNally and Lady Captain Linda Collins are now in office and I would like to wish them well for the year ahead.
The Captain made a good start to the year by winning the 1st competition of 2016 in partnership with son Chris, they scored an excellent 36 points.
Look out for Chris now as he has just treated himself to a new set of PING I series custom fitted irons, and after playing with his dad's cast offs for many years has just added about 20 yards to his iron shots!!
If you want to gain 20 yards like Chris, why not book a fitting with us here at Ashton. Click here to get in touch if you are interested.
Stop Press - 10 Yards Further!
I am so excited that I won't be able to sleep tonight as I have just found a Driver that goes 10 yards longer than my current one.
I am not expecting you all to rush out and buy one of these as it's all about how it works for you!
My current driver is a Titleist 913 which I have hit really well and was not really considering changing. I was consistently hitting it just under 240 yards through the air with a run out maybe to around 250!
Last night in the studio I tried the New TaylorMade M1 and was hitting it 250 yards carry. 10 yards is quite a big difference in carry, but the real exciting thing is that by being able to carry the ball that 10 yards further means on some holes, depending on bunkering and terrain, the distance gains could be as much as 40-50 yards because the extra carry allows you to take a different line off the tee or carry a bunker that was previously in the way.
BOOM!
Make sure you drop in and try out the new M1 if you are interested in gaining 10 yards more!!

An Evening With Karl Morris
On the 16th February I have arranged for Europe's Leading Mind coach Dr Karl Morris to present one of his excellent seminars which has been created just for our benefit, and is entitled The Players Programme.
It will be a fun, easy learning seminar where you will be able to learn the techniques successfully used with some of the world's greatest golfers, including 6 Major winners.
Karl is in high demand and I have been lucky to secure a date with him prior to the new season starting which is the perfect time for you to take on board some of his expertise.
I would urge anyone who would like to improve their game to come along and listen to Karl's fascinating advice.
I am trying to secure numbers as soon as possible and therefore the cost per ticket will be just £20 when you book and pay in advance.
As this is the 4th time in the past 10 years or so that I have invited Karl along, I know many of you will have seen him before as I have, but I am looking forward once again to refreshing my memory and I'm always open to learning ways to improve.
Please let me know ASAP if you would like to attend, or click here to get in touch.
Having taught golfers of all abilities for over 30 years I have seen many different ways that a golf ball can be hit effectively.
Time and time again I come across 2 minor issues that make a major difference.
One is Grip pressure and the other is Footwork (or lack of it)
Almost everyone I have ever taught has gripped the club too tightly and very few have had anything resembling good footwork.
On a scale of 1-10 I would like you to hold the club at around 4 (and I promise you won't let go of it)! Correct footwork and weight distribution is essential to hitting consistent golf shots, and yet I come across golfers every day who have no connection with their feet.
I would urge every golfer to start paying attention and getting in tune with their feet and how they should act during the swing.
Come and have a chat next time you are at the club about your footwork.
We look forward to seeing you and making 2016 your best golfing year yet.
